Her love for God, for the person of Jesus Christ, for neighbor, and her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary are lessons that members of the Legion of Mary and other Catholics can learn from Venerable Edel Quinn, the pioneer, in East and Central Africa, of the lay apostolic association of Catholics that is rooted in Marian spirituality, a Catholic Bishop in Kenya has said.

It was a Spanish galleon laden with treasures so sumptuous that its sinking in the Bahamas in 1656 sparked repeated salvage attempts over the next 350 years. So when another expedition was launched recently, few thought that there could be anything left – but exquisite, jewel-encrusted pendants and gold chains are among spectacular finds that have now been recovered, having lain untouched on the seabed for hundreds of years.

HISTORY: Ibn Khaldun born in Tunis in 1332, died in Cairo in 1406, he was an Arab historian, scholar and thinker, the Black Death took away most of his family when he was 17, for various reasons he was on the move all the time, he believed that moral decadence to be one of the great threats to civilisation, 195 copies of his books survive, an exhibition marking the 600th anniversary of his death is now on view at the Royal Palace in Seville, part of the catalogue can be viewed
